The Story So Far...
Founded in 1983, Apex Care Homes Ltd began with a simple but powerful belief: people should be cared for with the same compassion, dignity, and kindness we would want for our own family.
What started as a single care home in Luton has grown into four trusted care homes across Bedford and Luton, providing residential, nursing, and specialist care within five dedicated units. While we have grown over the past 40 years, our values have remained the same — putting people at the heart of everything we do.
As a family-owned organisation, we believe care should feel personal. That means creating warm, welcoming homes where residents feel safe, respected, valued, and truly cared for. We take pride in advocating for our residents' needs and rights, building genuine relationships not only with our residents, but also with their families, offering reassurance, trust, and peace of mind every step of the way.

1983
Founded
Apex Care Homes was established as a family business between a brother and sister and their respective partners, one of whom was a nurse. Their first care home opened in Luton to serve the needs of the local community.
1987
Development
Our first major expansion came five years later when we established our first nursing home in Bedford. With 28 beds, Crescent Nursing Home cares for residents with Mental health needs, Learning disabilities and dementia.
1993
Expansion
Apex Care Homes opened Alicia Nursing Home in Luton named after the owner's mother Alicia Eleanor Thasan, along with Bunyan lodge in Bedford - A residential care home caring for clients with mental health needs.
2008
Growth
Atwell House in Luton was opened in 2008 as a 7 bed specialist home for clients with learning and physical disabilities or dementia.
2012
Progression
Peter's Place, named in honour of one of our late founding family members, opened as a specialist nursing home for clients with learning and physical disabilities or dementia.
